The VALUE COLLECTION 839-072 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducer bushing designed to transition between pipe sizes in threaded piping systems. It connects a 1/2-inch male iron pipe thread (MIPT) on the outer end to a 1/4-inch female iron pipe thread (FIPT) on the inner end, reducing flow path diameter within the fitting itself. Schedule 80 wall thickness provides greater pressure resistance compared to Schedule 40, making this bushing appropriate for moderate-pressure service lines. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting when downsizing a threaded branch line or instrument connection without adding extra couplings or nipples to the run.
This reducer bushing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, chemical distribution, and industrial process lines where PVC is an acceptable pipe material. Typical applications include reducing a 1/2-inch threaded port down to a 1/4-inch connection for instrumentation taps, gauge ports, or small-diameter branch lines. It is installed in systems where the fluid is compatible with PVC, such as cold water supply, certain chemical handling, and low-temperature process piping.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems requiring a 1/2-inch MIPT to 1/4-inch FIPT reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters working on threaded PVC systems. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for PVC to all threaded connections before assembly. Hand-tighten first, then use a strap wrench to avoid cracking the PVC — do not use metal pipe wrenches directly on the fitting body. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting.
