The VALUE COLLECTION 79529996 is an extended prong cotter pin designed to secure fasteners, clevis pins, and shaft assemblies in mechanical and structural applications. Manufactured from Grade 2 steel with a zinc-plated finish, this cotter pin measures 3/16 inch in diameter and 2.5 inches in length. The extended prong design allows the legs to be bent back around a pin or shaft quickly and securely, reducing the risk of the pin backing out under vibration or load. The zinc plating provides basic corrosion resistance suitable for general indoor and light outdoor service. Maintenance technicians, millwrights, and general tradespeople typically install this hardware during equipment assembly, repair, or periodic maintenance tasks.
This cotter pin is suited for use in a wide range of mechanical assemblies where a positive locking fastener is required on a clevis pin, shaft, or bolt. Common applications include linkage assemblies, agricultural equipment, material handling machinery, HVAC damper linkages, and plumbing valve actuators. The 2.5-inch length provides sufficient tail stock to bend both prongs fully after insertion. Sold in a package quantity of 25 units, this item is well suited for shop stock or job-site replenishment.
Designed as a general-purpose extended prong cotter pin for use in standard mechanical assemblies requiring a 3/16 inch diameter locking pin with a 2.5 inch shank length.
Install cotter pins only after the primary fastener or clevis pin is fully seated and the assembly is in its final position. Insert the cotter pin through the hole in the shaft or bolt, then bend both prongs apart around the pin using needle-nose pliers. Inspect the bent prongs to confirm they are fully wrapped and will not back out during operation. Always replace a cotter pin that has been removed — do not reuse bent or deformed cotter pins.
