The VALUE COLLECTION 724-3146 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials while maintaining edge hardness under heat. The 5/8 inch diameter, 4-flute configuration generates a coarse chip load that clears material efficiently. With a 1-5/8 inch length of cut and 3-3/4 inch overall length, it suits standard vertical and horizontal milling setups. Installation and use require a compatible 5/8 inch shank tool holder. This end mill is typically used by machinists in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments.
This roughing end mill is suited for hogging operations where cycle time and stock removal rate are prioritized over surface finish. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional knee mills and CNC machining centers. The non-centercutting geometry means it is intended for peripheral milling and side milling passes rather than direct plunge cuts. TiN coating extends tool life compared to uncoated cobalt by reducing friction and improving heat resistance at the cutting edge.
Designed for use in any milling machine or machining center accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank end mill holder. Compatible with conventional and CNC vertical mills running standard right-hand spindle rotation.
Install in a 5/8 inch collet or end mill holder, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the set screw or collet nut is properly torqued per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Power down the spindle and confirm a full stop before changing tooling. Because this is a non-centercutting end mill, do not program direct axial plunge moves — use ramping or helical entry toolpaths instead. Confirm correct spindle direction before engaging the cut.
