The VALUE COLLECTION 724-1131 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. It features a 9/16-inch (0.5625-inch) cutting diameter and a 1/2-inch shank diameter, with four right-hand flutes engineered to break chips into smaller segments and reduce cutting forces compared to standard end mills. The body is manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel for heat and wear resistance, and the cutting edges carry a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life. This tool is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry into workpieces. It is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on manual or CNC milling machines.
This roughing end mill suits general-purpose hogging operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including steel alloys, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. The 1-3/8-inch length of cut and 3-3/8-inch overall length make it appropriate for shallow-to-medium-depth pocketing, slotting, and profiling passes where maximizing material removal rate is the priority before a finishing pass. The 1/2-inch shank fits standard ER collets, side-lock holders, and end mill holders common across most milling setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard addition for milling machines accepting 1/2-inch shank end mills via ER collet chucks, Weldon-style side-lock holders, or equivalent end mill holding systems.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per standard shop safety practice. Seat the 1/2-inch shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges for chips or wear before each use — a damaged roughing end mill should not be run. Speeds and feeds should be calculated for the specific workpiece material and machine rigidity; consult published HSS cobalt cutting data tables for starting parameters.
