The VALUE COLLECTION 724-1056 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles tough ferrous metals and heat-resistant alloys where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 5/16 inch diameter cutting edge spans a 1-1/8 inch length of cut, with a 3/8 inch shank diameter for secure chuck or collet engagement. A TiN coating extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. With 3 right-hand flutes and a center-cutting geometry, this end mill can plunge directly into workpiece material.
This roughing end mill is suited for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. It performs best in slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations where high chip loads and rapid stock removal are the priority. The wavy or serrated flute geometry typical of roughing end mills reduces cutting forces and vibration, making it a practical choice for harder materials or less rigid setups. Overall length is 2-15/16 inches.
Designed as a standard replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for 3/8 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and side-lock holders on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists using appropriate end mill holders or collet chucks rated for the 3/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked before changing tooling. Follow shop-standard runout and tool-length offset procedures after seating the end mill. Verify cutting direction matches the right-hand spindle rotation of the machine before engaging the workpiece.
