The VALUE COLLECTION 724-0119 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles tough alloys and hardened materials that standard HSS tooling cannot manage. The 1/2 inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a bright, uncoated finish and a right-hand cutting direction. With a 1-5/8 inch length of cut and a 3-5/8 inch overall length, this tool is sized for general-purpose roughing passes on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece.
This roughing end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass. The serrated or wave-form flute geometry typical of roughing end mills reduces cutting forces and chip load per tooth, allowing higher feed rates without sacrificing tool life. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this style of end mill on ferrous metals, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. The 1/2 inch shank diameter matches the cutter diameter, making it compatible with standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1/2 inch diameter single-end roughing end mills used in conventional and CNC milling machines equipped with 1/2 inch collet chucks or end mill holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholding specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or placed in E-stop before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the set screw or collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, particularly on high-feed roughing operations.
