The VALUE COLLECTION 724-0098 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles tough ferrous metals and heat-resistant alloys where standard HSS tooling would break down. The 4-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a bright uncoated finish delivers efficient chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. The 15/32 inch (0.4688 inch decimal) cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch shank, and the 1.25 inch length of cut accommodates most standard roughing depths in a single pass. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry when needed.
This end mill is used in manual knee mills, CNC vertical machining centers, and horizontal mills across job shops, maintenance shops, and production environments. It is suited for roughing slots, pockets, and peripheral cuts in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cut configuration make it compatible with conventional right-hand spindle setups. The 3.25 inch overall length fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and directly collet-mounted toolholders sized for a 1/2 inch shank. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers and operators of this tooling.
Designed for use in milling machines equipped with toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter, including collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit systems on both manual and CNC vertical or horizontal mills.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or changing tooling. Seat the 1/2 inch shank fully into the collet or toolholder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after securing the tool, as excessive runout accelerates wear and reduces surface finish quality on roughing cuts.
