The VALUE COLLECTION 723-5742 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers thermal and wear resistance suited to harder workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The cutter measures 9/16 inch (0.5625 inches) in diameter with a 1/2-inch shank diameter, a 1-3/8-inch length of cut, and a 3-3/8-inch overall length. With 4 flutes and a right-hand cutting and flute direction, it produces the characteristic corncob chip-breaking geometry that reduces cutting forces and minimizes vibration during heavy stock removal passes. Typically installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
This roughing end mill is suited for roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where high chip loads and fast material removal are the priority. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the tool at its ground geometry without added coating thickness, which is preferred when running with cutting fluid or when regrinding is anticipated. The non-centercutting design means it is intended for peripheral side milling and slotting entries from an existing bore or edge — not direct plunge cutting. The single-end configuration makes it straightforward to index and replace in standard end mill holders or collet chucks.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill with a 1/2-inch shank diameter, compatible with end mill holders, side-lock holders, and collet chuck systems that accept 1/2-inch tooling on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before tool changes. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended for the holder type, and verify runout with a dial indicator before taking a cut. This is a non-centercutting tool — do not use for direct plunge milling; start cuts from an edge or pre-drilled hole. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life.
