The VALUE COLLECTION 723-5527 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers excellent heat and wear resistance when cutting ferrous and harder alloy materials. The 5/8-inch diameter tool features 4 flutes with a coarse pitch configuration, which reduces cutting forces, clears chips efficiently, and minimizes chatter during heavy roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish maintains a sharp cutting edge and suits applications where coating-related dimensional buildup is a concern. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this end mill in manual and CNC milling machines for stock removal prior to finishing passes.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations on ferrous metals and harder workpiece materials in both job-shop and production milling environments. The coarse pitch flute geometry breaks chips into manageable segments, reducing heat buildup and extending tool life in demanding cuts. With a 2.5-inch length of cut and 4.625-inch overall length, it provides adequate reach for most standard milling setups without sacrificing rigidity. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction match conventional milling machine spindle rotation. This is a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn, the tool is replaced rather than flipped.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard milling machines accepting a 5/8-inch shank, including manual knee mills and CNC vertical machining centers with compatible collet or end mill holder tooling.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Secure the 5/8-inch shank in a properly sized end mill holder or collet chuck and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. This tool is not center-cutting — do not plunge directly into solid material; use a pre-drilled hole or ramp entry for plunge-style operations.
