The VALUE COLLECTION 723-3914 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and hard materials where high-speed steel falls short. Built from M42 cobalt steel, this single-end tool runs a 7/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1-7/8 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length. The 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with surface finish quality. The bright/uncoated finish makes it a straightforward choice for operations where coolant is applied externally. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this type of cutter on vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose milling in ferrous materials including alloy steels, stainless steels, and cast iron where heat resistance and edge retention are priorities over a coated tool. The 1/2 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders commonly used in both manual and CNC setups. The regular-length geometry fits most production and toolroom applications without the rigidity tradeoffs of extended-reach tools. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional mill spindle rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard stock end mill for vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers accepting 1/2 inch shank tooling in ER, end mill holder, or Weldon chuck systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the tool from its holder. Ensure the shank is fully engaged in the holder to the recommended grip depth and that the set screw or collet is torqued according to the holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use; cobalt end mills are brittle under interrupted cuts if feeds and speeds are not properly dialed in.
