The VALUE COLLECTION 723-3407 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end tool offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS end mills. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long category for applications that require extended reach into deep pockets or stepped workpieces. The bright, uncoated finish keeps friction low and allows visual wear monitoring during use. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on manual mills, CNC mills, and machining centers are the primary users of this style of end mill.
This end mill suits production and job-shop environments where extended reach is needed beyond what a standard-length tool provides. The 0.5 inch shank diameter is compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders rated for that shank size. Its center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, making it suitable for pocketing operations without a pre-drilled entry hole. The right-hand cutting and right-hand spiral flute configuration is the industry standard for conventional and climb milling on vertical machining centers and knee mills alike.
Designed as a standard fractional-inch shank end mill compatible with 0.5 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling arbors used in vertical machining centers, CNC knee mills, and manual Bridgeport-style mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth before tightening to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Inspect the tool for chips, cracks, or worn cutting edges before each use. Always bring spindle speed and feed rate to safe starting values based on the workpiece material and consult published speeds-and-feeds charts for cobalt end mills before beginning a cut.
