The VALUE COLLECTION 723-3309 is a cobalt square end mill designed for metal cutting operations on machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end tool offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS, making it well suited for harder ferrous materials and interrupted cuts. It carries a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 2-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 4-5/8 inch overall length. The bright, uncoated finish means the tool is ready to run as supplied, with no coating concerns for regrinding. Four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action across a range of feed and speed conditions.
This end mill is appropriate for general-purpose milling tasks in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The long-series geometry, with its 2-1/2 inch length of cut, accommodates deeper pockets, slots, and peripheral milling passes where a standard-length tool cannot reach. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled start hole. Suitable for ferrous metals including alloy steel, tool steel, and stainless, as well as some non-ferrous applications. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and skilled trades professionals in manufacturing environments are the typical end users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 5/8 inch shank square end mill applications requiring a long-series cobalt tool. Compatible with any milling machine or machining center spindle accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank, including R8, CAT, BT, and ER collet toolholding systems sized for 5/8 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank firmly in a collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-style holder, torquing set screws per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Ensure the spindle and machine are fully de-energized and locked out before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool to confirm proper holder engagement before beginning a cut.
