The VALUE COLLECTION 438-338 is a Schedule 40 PVC pipe bushing designed to reduce a 3-inch pipe opening down to a 2-inch connection. It features a Slip (spigot) inlet and a Female Iron Pipe Thread (FIPT) outlet, allowing a plain-end pipe to be inserted on the larger side while threading into a female-threaded fitting or valve on the smaller side. Weighing 0.53 pounds, this lightweight PVC bushing is a standard component in residential and commercial plumbing drainage and water distribution systems. Plumbers and pipefitters install this part when transitioning between two pipe sizes within a PVC system.
This bushing is suited for use in Schedule 40 PVC piping systems where a threaded reduction is needed between a 3-inch and 2-inch line. Typical applications include drain, waste, and vent (DWV) assemblies as well as cold-water supply lines where PVC is code-approved. The Slip x FIPT end configuration makes it compatible with standard solvent-weld pipe on the inlet side and any 2-inch female-threaded fitting on the outlet side.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for Schedule 40 PVC piping systems requiring a 3-inch to 2-inch threaded reduction fitting.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. The Slip inlet requires PVC primer and solvent cement applied per the cement manufacturer's instructions; do not skip the primer step on solvent-weld joints. Thread the FIPT outlet connection by hand first, then use a strap wrench to avoid cracking the PVC body.
