The VALUE COLLECTION 429-4006 is a 4-jaw independent manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on metalworking lathes. With a 6-inch diameter body and plain back mount, it accommodates a wide range of workpiece shapes that self-centering chucks cannot grip reliably. Each jaw moves independently, allowing the operator to dial in exact concentricity or deliberately offset a part for eccentric turning. The cast iron body measures 2.5625 inches in length and weighs 23 pounds. Solid reversible jaws and a T-wrench are included. This chuck is installed by machinists and toolroom operators on manual engine lathes.
The 429-4006 is suited for job shop, maintenance, and production environments where a mix of round, square, hex, and irregular stock is common. The plain back mount requires a lathe-specific adapter plate or direct machining to match the spindle nose, making it appropriate for shops that fit chucks to their exact machine configuration. The through-hole diameter of 1.765 inches (1-49/64) accommodates bar stock fed through the spindle. The one-piece reversible jaw design provides flexibility for both internal and external gripping without purchasing additional jaw sets.
Designed as a plain back manual lathe chuck for use on engine lathes requiring a 6-inch chuck with an independently customized spindle adapter. No specific machine model compatibility was provided; verify spindle nose type and required adapter plate before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe spindle nose configurations. Power down and lock out the lathe before mounting or removing the chuck. The plain back must be bored or fitted to a purpose-made adapter plate matched to the lathe spindle nose to ensure proper seating and runout. At 23 pounds, use appropriate lifting technique or a mechanical aid when handling the chuck during mounting.
