The VALUE COLLECTION 429-36001 is a self-centering manual lathe chuck designed for turning and machining operations on manual lathes. With a 6-19/64 inch (159.94 mm) chuck diameter and a plain back mount, this chuck provides reliable workpiece clamping across a range of cylindrical and irregular stock. The two-piece reversible jaws allow the chuck to grip both small-diameter and larger-diameter workpieces without swapping jaw sets. Cast iron body construction provides rigidity and dampens vibration during cuts. Machinists and tool room operators working with manual lathes in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments will find this chuck straightforward to set up and use.
This chuck is suited for manual lathe applications in both light production and general-purpose machining environments. The self-centering scroll mechanism allows all three jaws to move simultaneously, reducing setup time when chucking round or hex stock. The reversible two-piece jaws extend the gripping range without requiring separate jaw sets. A through-hole diameter of 1.535 inches accommodates bar stock fed through the spindle. The plain back mount requires a backing plate matched to the lathe spindle nose — verify spindle nose type and thread before installation.
Designed as an OEM-style manual lathe chuck with a plain back mount. A separately sourced backing plate machined to match the lathe spindle nose is required for installation — confirm spindle nose type and dimensions before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe spindle nose configurations. Power down and lock out the lathe before mounting or removing the chuck. The plain back design requires a precision-fit backing plate — do not mount the chuck directly to the spindle without a properly bored and faced adapter plate. After installation, verify runout with a dial indicator before resuming machining operations.
