The VALUE COLLECTION 429-3063 is a 3-jaw self-centering manual lathe chuck designed for use on engine lathes and turret lathes equipped with a D1-3 direct-mount spindle nose. The chuck measures 6-19/64 inches in diameter and features a 1.5748-inch (40.00 mm) through-hole, allowing bar stock to pass through the spindle. The body is cast from cast iron for rigidity and vibration damping during turning operations. Reversible two-piece jaws allow the operator to flip jaw orientation without removing them from the scroll, enabling work holding on both small-diameter and large-diameter workpieces. Machinists and machine shop technicians are the primary installers and operators of this chuck.
This chuck is suited for manual turning operations in job shops, maintenance machine shops, and production environments where a mid-size D1-3 spindle is in use. The self-centering scroll mechanism closes all three jaws simultaneously, making it practical for repeat work on round and hexagonal stock. The reversible jaw configuration extends the effective clamping range without requiring a separate set of jaws. At 31 pounds, this is a substantial chuck that requires proper handling and lifting practice during installation and removal from the spindle nose.
Designed for engine lathes and turret lathes fitted with a D1-3 Camlock direct-mount spindle nose. Confirm your lathe spindle designation is D1-3 before ordering, as D1-4, D1-5, and other Camlock sizes are not interchangeable with this chuck.
Chuck mounting and removal should be performed by a qualified machinist following the lathe manufacturer's spindle nose procedures. Always power down the lathe and engage the spindle lock before attempting to mount or remove the chuck. The D1-3 Camlock studs should be inspected and cleaned before seating the chuck on the spindle nose; do not force the chuck onto a dirty or damaged spindle. At 31 pounds, use a chuck cradle or a hoist to safely support the chuck during installation and removal to prevent spindle damage and personal injury.
