The VALUE COLLECTION 367-0241 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads without removing the fastener from its installed position. Made from high-speed steel, this die handles the friction and heat generated during thread chasing on steel, iron, and similar ferrous fasteners. It covers the 3/8-16 thread specification, which is a Unified National Coarse right-hand thread — one of the most common fastener sizes across mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural applications. Technicians use rethreading dies as a repair tool rather than a cutting tool, cleaning and reforming thread profiles to restore proper fit and torque engagement.
This die is suited for field and shop use wherever 3/8-16 UNC fasteners are found in deteriorated condition. Common applications include restoring threads on bolts securing equipment bases, pipe hangers, conduit strut hardware, and mechanical supports. It is a standard addition to a service technician toolkit when working on aging equipment or outdoor installations where fastener corrosion is a routine issue. The hex body allows use with a standard open-end wrench or adjustable wrench for controlled hand operation.
Designed for use on 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threaded fasteners. Compatible with standard hex wrench drive operation for field repair of external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod in that specification.
Thread restoration work should be performed by a qualified technician familiar with fastener standards. Before rethreading, clean the fastener of debris, rust, and scale and apply a thread-cutting lubricant to reduce die wear and improve thread quality. Work the die in controlled, short strokes — advancing forward and backing off periodically to clear material. Inspect the restored thread with a mating nut before returning the fastener to service load.
