The VALUE COLLECTION 365-2165 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod. Built from carbon steel, this die handles the cutting forces required to chase and clean unified thread forms back to serviceable condition. The 2-1/4-8 thread designation indicates a 2.25-inch nominal diameter with 8 threads per inch, a coarse-pitch profile commonly found on heavy industrial fasteners, pipe fittings, and large mechanical assemblies. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians use hex rethreading dies as a fast, field-serviceable solution when full thread replacement is not practical.
This die is suited for use in industrial maintenance, MRO shops, pipefitting, and heavy equipment service environments where large-diameter fasteners are regularly encountered. The right-hand thread direction matches the standard turning convention, making it compatible with conventional die stocks and holders sized for large hex dies. It is appropriate for both shop use and on-site repair work where restoring thread integrity on oversized fasteners is required.
Designed as an OEM-style rethreading die for use on external 2-1/4-8 right-hand unified thread forms in industrial and mechanical service applications.
This die should be installed in a properly sized hex die stock before use. Secure the workpiece firmly before applying the die to prevent movement during thread chasing. Apply cutting oil liberally to the die and fastener to reduce heat buildup and extend die life. Always turn the die back periodically to break chips and prevent thread damage during the rethreading pass.
