The VALUE COLLECTION 314-1268 is a round threading die designed to cut external threads on rod, bolt stock, and round bar. It is sized for 5/8-18 UNF (Unified National Fine) thread and manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) for durability under repeated use. The die is adjustable, allowing the operator to fine-tune thread fit or take multiple passes when working harder materials. Right-hand thread direction follows standard UNF convention. This type of die is a common hand-tool and lathe accessory used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and industrial technicians performing thread repair or fabrication work.
This die is suited for cutting 5/8-18 UNF external threads on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in machine shop, maintenance, and field fabrication settings. The 5/8-18 UNF designation is common in precision fastener applications, including hydraulic fittings, mechanical linkages, and fine-thread fastener repair. It can be used in a standard round die stock holder for hand threading or held in a tailstock die holder on a lathe.
Designed for use in standard round die stock holders sized to accept round dies. Cuts 5/8-18 UNF external threads per Unified National Fine thread standards.
Threading dies should be installed by machinists or qualified mechanics familiar with thread-cutting procedures. Secure the die firmly in the die stock before use and apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend die life and improve thread finish. Start the die squarely on the workpiece to avoid cross-threading. Inspect the die for chipping or wear before each use, and do not force a worn die — replace it to maintain thread accuracy.
