The VALUE COLLECTION 3-555-025P is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and similar machine tool applications. Built from steel with a standard point style, this dead center accepts a 5MT Morse taper shank and features a 1.76-inch head diameter with a matching 1.76-inch point diameter and a 0.71-inch tip diameter. At 7-7/8 inches overall length and 4.29 pounds, it is sized for medium to heavy turning work. Because it does not rotate with the workpiece, it is used in applications where the part spins against the stationary center, typically at lower speeds with appropriate lubrication at the contact point.
This solid dead center is suited for manual and CNC lathes equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock. It is a standard fitment for shops performing turning, facing, and between-center work on medium to large-diameter stock. Machinists in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments rely on solid dead centers when rigidity and positional accuracy take priority over live-center rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fitment for lathes and machine tools equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock or spindle bore.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Before seating the center, power down and lock out the lathe spindle drive following standard LOTO procedures. Clean the tailstock bore and the Morse taper shank thoroughly to ensure full seating and prevent fretting. When running a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting fluid or grease at the workpiece contact point to reduce friction and heat buildup, and monitor contact regularly during extended cuts.
