The VALUE COLLECTION 3-550-020P is a carbide-tipped steel solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and similar machining setups. It accepts a 4MT (No. 4 Morse Taper) shank for secure seating in compatible tailstock bores. The head diameter measures 1.24 inches, the point diameter measures 1.24 inches, and the tip diameter measures 0.55 inches. Overall length (OAL) is 6-5/16 inches. The standard point style suits general-purpose turning operations. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC lathe operators are the primary users of this type of tooling component.
This solid dead center is suited for manual and CNC lathes that accept a No. 4 Morse Taper tailstock. It is appropriate for residential shop and industrial production environments where a rigid, non-rotating center point is required to support workpieces during turning. The carbide tip provides wear resistance when running at low to moderate speeds with proper lubrication applied to the center point. This part is sold individually.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks and other machine tool spindles that accept a No. 4 Morse Taper (4MT) shank bore.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Clean the Morse Taper shank and the tailstock bore thoroughly before seating to ensure full contact and prevent fretting. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before inserting or removing the center. When used as a dead center, apply a suitable center lubricant or cutting compound to the workpiece center hole to reduce heat buildup and prevent galling at the tip.
