The VALUE COLLECTION 27640 is a square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from M2 high speed steel (HSS), this single-end tool features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter and a 3/8 inch length of cut (LOC), making it suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in light to medium material removal applications. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. The bright/uncoated finish is standard for HSS tooling and works well in lower-speed, manually lubricated setups. Machinists and tool-and-die shops reach for this size when working in tight geometries or finishing small features.
This end mill is used in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and drill press setups where a small-diameter cutting tool is required. The 3/8 inch shank diameter suits standard collet chucks and end mill holders common on Bridgeport-style knee mills and compact CNC machines. At 2-5/16 inches overall length (OAL), it offers enough stick-out for most light-duty milling tasks without sacrificing rigidity. Typical applications include slot cutting, step milling, and contouring in ferrous and non-ferrous materials at appropriate surface speeds for HSS tooling.
Designed as a standard square end mill replacement for applications requiring a 1/8 inch diameter, 3/8 inch shank, single-end HSS tool with a regular-length profile.
Installation is performed by a machinist using a compatible collet chuck or end mill holder sized for a 3/8 inch shank. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is in a safe lockout state before changing tooling. Verify collet or holder runout before beginning a cut, as excessive runout at this small diameter accelerates tool wear. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when operating at recommended HSS surface speeds.
