The VALUE COLLECTION 262-3058 is an expanding lathe mandrel designed to hold workpieces securely during turning operations. It grips bores ranging from 7/8 inch to 1 inch, making it suitable for a range of cylindrical workpieces that require inside-diameter clamping. The mandrel features a 7/8-inch shank diameter and a 3.5-inch sleeve length, with an overall arbor length of 7 inches. Licensed machinists and tool-room technicians use this type of expanding mandrel when external gripping is impractical and a secure, centered hold on an internal bore is required.
This mandrel is suited for use on manual engine lathes and similar turning equipment in machine shops, tool rooms, and production environments. It is appropriate for light to medium turning, facing, and finishing operations where the workpiece bore falls within the 7/8-inch to 1-inch grip range. The expanding sleeve mechanism distributes clamping force evenly around the bore to reduce workpiece distortion during machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit expanding mandrel for manual engine lathes and turning centers that accept a 7/8-inch shank and require bore gripping between 7/8 inch and 1 inch.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard shop practices. Ensure the lathe is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before mounting or removing the mandrel. Clean the shank and spindle bore before installation to ensure proper seating and concentricity. Do not exceed the rated grip range, as over-expansion of the sleeve can damage the workpiece bore or the mandrel.
