The VALUE COLLECTION 262-2044 is a standard lathe mandrel used to hold workpieces securely between centers during turning operations. The mandrel features an 11/16 inch face diameter and an overall length of 5-3/4 inches, making it suited for light to mid-range turning tasks. Machinists press or tap the mandrel through a bored workpiece so it grips from the inside, allowing the outside diameter to be turned concentric with the bore. This style of mandrel is a common shop standard found in tool rooms, maintenance shops, and production turning environments.
This mandrel is appropriate for manual lathe work in both job shop and maintenance machining settings. It is used when a workpiece requires outside-diameter turning, facing, or finishing that must run true to an existing bored hole. The 11/16 inch face diameter suits small bored workpieces such as bushings, spacers, and small hubs. It is typically installed and used by machinists and tool room technicians working with engine lathes or manual turning centers.
Designed as a standard between-centers lathe mandrel for use with engine lathes and manual turning centers that accept workpieces with an 11/16 inch bore.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists familiar with between-centers lathe work. The workpiece bore must be clean and sized to match the mandrel taper before pressing or driving the mandrel through. Ensure the lathe is fully stopped and the spindle is locked before mounting or removing the mandrel from the centers. Do not exceed the workpiece bore tolerance recommended for the mandrel diameter, as an improper fit can cause workpiece slippage or mandrel damage during cutting.
