The VALUE COLLECTION 262-2024 is a standard lathe mandrel designed to hold workpieces securely during turning, grinding, or finishing operations. The mandrel features a 3/8 inch face diameter and an overall length of 4.25 inches, making it suited for light-duty precision work on a manual or engine lathe. Machinists and tool room operators use mandrels like this to support bored or reamed workpieces between centers, allowing outside diameters to be turned concentric with the bore. At 0.15 pounds, the 262-2024 is a compact, easy-to-handle tooling component for the machine shop environment.
This standard lathe mandrel is intended for use in machine shops, tool rooms, and production environments where workpieces require outside turning after boring or reaming. It fits between lathe centers and is driven by a lathe dog, supporting the workpiece through its center hole. Typical applications include finishing cylindrical parts such as gears, bushings, and small hubs where concentricity between the bore and outside diameter is critical. The compact 3/8 inch face diameter makes it appropriate for smaller bored workpieces.
Designed as a standard-style lathe mandrel for use with conventional engine lathes and tool room lathes that accept between-center workholding accessories.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists familiar with between-center lathe operations. Power off and lock out the lathe before mounting or removing the mandrel. The mandrel should be pressed or driven into the workpiece bore with a proper fit before mounting between centers. Do not exceed the lathe's rated RPM for the workpiece and mandrel combination, and ensure the lathe dog is secured firmly before initiating a cut.
