The VALUE COLLECTION 262-2008 is a standard lathe mandrel designed to hold workpieces between centers during turning, grinding, or finishing operations. With a 1/8 inch face diameter and an overall length of 2-1/2 inches, this mandrel provides a secure, concentric mounting point for small bored parts that require accurate outer diameter machining. Machinists and toolroom technicians use mandrels like this one to maintain concentricity when the workpiece must be driven by its bore rather than its outer surface. The compact size suits small-bore components common in precision and light-duty machining work.
This mandrel is suited for use on manual engine lathes and toolroom lathes in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. It is appropriate for applications involving small workpieces with a bore that accepts a 1/8 inch diameter mandrel, such as bushings, spacers, and small flanged components. It is mounted between centers and driven with a lathe dog to allow full outer diameter access during cutting or finishing operations.
Designed as a standard-style lathe mandrel for use on manual engine lathes and toolroom lathes that support between-center workholding with a 1/8 inch bore workpiece.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists familiar with between-center lathe operations. Before mounting, ensure the lathe is powered down and the spindle is locked. The mandrel is pressed or driven lightly into the workpiece bore and then seated between the headstock and tailstock centers using a lathe dog for drive. Do not force the mandrel into a bore that does not match the specified face diameter, as this can damage the workpiece or compromise concentricity.
