The VALUE COLLECTION 230-4450 is a 5C collet designed for use in 5C-compatible spindles, lathes, and collet closers found in machine shop environments. 5C collets provide a secure, concentric grip on round, square, or hex workpieces during turning, milling, and grinding operations. This collet holds a Total Indicator Runout (TIR) of 0.00197 inches, ensuring precise workpiece centering critical for tight-tolerance machining. It is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom technicians working with 5C-style workholding equipment.
This collet is suited for use on manual and CNC lathes, indexers, rotary tables, and collet blocks that accept the standard 5C collet form. It is appropriate for both production and prototype machining environments where consistent gripping accuracy and repeatability are required. The 5C collet is one of the most widely used workholding formats in general-purpose machining across job shops and production facilities.
Designed as a standard 5C-style collet for use in any machine tool spindle, collet closer, collet chuck, or fixture that accepts the 5C collet form factor.
5C collets are installed by machinists using a compatible collet closer or draw tube mechanism specific to the machine tool. The machine spindle must be at a full stop and all motion controls disabled before inserting or removing a collet. Inspect the collet bore, taper, and nose for chips, burrs, or wear before seating, as contamination directly affects runout. Collets should not be over-tightened beyond the closer manufacturer recommendations, as this can distort the collet bore and degrade accuracy.
