The VALUE COLLECTION 230-4421 is a 5C expanding collet machined from steel for use in lathes, grinding machines, and other precision workholding equipment that accept the 5C collet standard. This expanding collet grips the internal bore of a workpiece rather than the outside diameter, making it the correct choice when the bore is the reference surface. The head measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter and 1-1/2 inches in length. Total indicator runout (TIR) is rated at 0.0020 inches, delivering the concentricity required for finish-turning and light grinding operations. The part weighs 2.5 pounds.
This collet is suited for production and toolroom environments where 5C-compatible spindles or collet closers are in use. The expanding design handles workpieces with internal diameters ranging from 3/4 inch (0.7500 inches) minimum grip up to 1-7/16 inch (1.4375 inches) maximum grip. It is a practical choice for second-operation work where the machined bore is used to locate the part for subsequent turning, milling, or grinding. Machinists and tool and die makers are the primary installers in both manual and CNC lathe setups.
Designed for use in machines and fixtures built to the 5C collet standard, including lathes, indexers, collet closers, and grinding fixtures that accept 5C tooling.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before inserting or removing the collet. Ensure the collet and spindle nose are clean and free of chips before seating to protect concentricity. Do not exceed the stated grip range, as overloading the collet body can cause permanent distortion or workpiece damage.
