The VALUE COLLECTION 230-4372 is a 5C step collet machined from steel for use in lathes, collet chucks, and other 5C-compatible workholding equipment. It features a 2-inch head diameter and a 1/4-inch pilot hole, making it suited for gripping workpieces that require a stepped collet profile rather than a standard round or square bore. The internal thread measures 1.041 inches at 24 threads per inch, and the external thread measures 1.242 inches at 20 threads per inch. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning or second-operation setups are the primary users of this collet.
Step collets are used when a workpiece has a shoulder, flange, or diameter change that a standard collet cannot grip reliably. This collet fits conventional 5C collet closers and chucks found on engine lathes, turret lathes, and manual or CNC turning centers equipped with a 5C spindle nose. The 1-1/8-inch head thickness provides adequate contact area for stable workholding on short-chuck or close-tolerance operations. It is a common choice in job shops and production environments where 5C tooling is the standard platform.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit addition for machine tool setups using the standard 5C collet system.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before installing or changing collets, power down the machine and confirm the spindle has come to a complete stop. Inspect the collet seat and closer threads for wear or contamination before seating the collet. Do not exceed the workholding capacity of the collet closer, and follow the machine manufacturer guidelines for draw-tube torque and collet closer adjustment.
