The VALUE COLLECTION 22549 is a free running, tanged wire thread insert designed to repair or reinforce 3/4-16 UNF internal threads in metal components. Made from stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this helical coil insert installs into a pre-tapped host bore and provides a hardened thread form that resists wear, corrosion, and pull-out. At 1.125 inches overall length and a 1-1/2D length-to-diameter ratio, it is sized for standard through-hole and blind-hole applications. The tanged design allows installation with a standard drive tool and subsequent tang break-off after seating. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and assembly professionals use these inserts to restore stripped threads or build in thread strength from initial production.
This insert is suited for repair and manufacturing applications in aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, and general fabrication. The 3/4-16 UNF thread size is common in precision mechanical assemblies where a fine thread pitch is required for load-bearing or vibration-resistant joints. The stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for environments with moisture exposure or mild chemical contact. Each package contains 5 inserts, supporting small batch repair jobs or low-volume production runs.
Designed as a direct-installation helical coil thread insert for any host material pre-tapped to 3/4-16 UNF insert-ready dimensions per standard wire thread insert specifications.
Installation requires a correctly sized STI (Screw Thread Insert) tap to prepare the host bore before insert placement. Use a matching helical coil drive tool to thread the insert to the correct depth, ensuring the top coil sits at or just below the surface of the host material. After seating, break off the installation tang using a tang break-off tool or punch. Follow applicable shop safety practices and de-energize or secure any assembly before performing thread repair work.
