The VALUE COLLECTION 15477 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create accurate center indentations that guide twist drills, reamers, and other cutting tools into precise starting positions. Built to Series 1545 standards, it features a 90-degree point angle and a 0.5000-inch cutting diameter, making it well-suited for general-purpose spotting operations in metal fabrication and machining environments. The bright, uncoated carbide construction provides consistent performance across a range of workpiece materials. With an overall length of 3 inches and a 1.2500-inch flute length, it fits standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses alike. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This spotting drill is used in both production shop and job-shop environments where hole location accuracy is critical before full-diameter drilling. The 90-degree included point angle is the most common standard for spotting operations, compatible with typical drill point geometries used in general metalworking. Its 0.5000-inch straight cylindrical shank fits conventional collet chucks and Weldon-style holders in that shank size. The two-flute spiral design clears chips effectively during short spotting passes on steel, aluminum, cast iron, and similar machinable materials.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses accepting a 0.5000-inch straight cylindrical shank; no specific machine model compatibility was provided by the manufacturer for this part.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures for the machine in use. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Confirm shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning a spotting operation. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling in the workpiece material being machined.
