The VALUE COLLECTION 01551365 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal, cast iron, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit accepts a 5MT (Morse Taper 5) shank, making it compatible with larger drill presses and milling machine spindles that use that taper size. The cutting end features a standard 118-degree point angle with a web-thinned tip to reduce thrust and improve centering at startup. At 1.5625 inches in diameter, it handles large-bore drilling operations where smaller bits are not appropriate. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and heavy industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in production and maintenance environments. Typical applications include drilling large through-holes or stepped holes in steel plate, cast iron housings, and similar ferrous workpieces. The spiral flute geometry with a right-hand cutting direction provides efficient chip evacuation during deep drilling passes. The 9.625-inch flute length accommodates significant depth of cut, while the 16.625-inch overall length fits the extended quill travel found on floor-standing drill presses and radial arm drills equipped with a 5MT spindle taper.
Designed for use in drill presses, radial arm drills, and milling machines equipped with a No. 5 Morse Taper (5MT) spindle socket. This is a general-purpose bit; confirm spindle taper size before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or industrial maintenance technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank and the spindle socket of chips and oil before inserting to ensure full taper contact and prevent slippage under load. Use a proper drift punch and the spindle drift slot to safely eject the bit - never strike the bit directly.
