The VALUE COLLECTION 01541275 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in metal, alloy, and other hard materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit handles the elevated heat and friction generated in demanding shop and field drilling applications. It carries a 4MT (Morse Taper 4) shank, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust and improves penetration. With a 1-27/64 inch cutting diameter and a right-hand spiral flute, it is sized for large-bore work requiring a rigid, secure taper-fit spindle connection. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance crews running drill presses or lathes with compatible taper sleeves are the primary users of this bit.
This taper shank drill bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composite materials on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines fitted with a Number 4 Morse Taper spindle. The 9-1/8 inch flute length provides sufficient chip clearance for deep-hole drilling operations, while the 14-3/4 inch overall length accommodates setups where extended reach is required. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing the risk of clogging during continuous drilling cycles.
Designed for use in drill press spindles, lathe tailstocks, and milling machine quills equipped with a Number 4 Morse Taper socket. A 4MT sleeve or drift is required for removal from the spindle after use.
Taper shank drill bits are installed and removed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with Morse Taper tooling. Always power down and lock out the machine before seating or drifting out the bit. Ensure the taper socket and shank are clean and free of chips or oil film before insertion to guarantee proper seating and prevent slippage under load. Use the correct drift pin and drift slot to remove the bit — do not strike the spindle housing directly.
