The VALUE COLLECTION 01188499 is a No. 49 wire-size jobber drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and cast iron. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, it offers adequate hardness and surface protection for production and maintenance drilling tasks. The 118-degree standard point angle suits a wide range of ferrous materials and is the most common geometry stocked in trade and industrial settings. With a 2-inch overall length and a 1-inch regular spiral flute, this short, stiff configuration resists deflection in tight-clearance drilling applications. Licensed tradespeople and maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this tool.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpieces in residential, commercial, and light industrial environments. Its straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks across most hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling setups. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute type make it a straightforward stock item for general maintenance, fabrication, and mechanical repair work. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust force at the point, which is especially useful when drilling in thin-gauge sheet stock.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement jobber drill bit suitable for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0730-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous materials to extend tool life and improve hole quality. Inspect the drill point for wear or chipping before each use and replace when the cutting edge is dull to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
