The UPONOR LF4543850 is a lead-free brass reducing coupling designed for ProPEX expansion-style PEX piping systems. It transitions a 3/8-inch nominal PEX line to a 1/2-inch nominal PEX line using the ProPEX end-connection method, which requires an expansion tool and PEX ring or fitting sleeve for installation. The lead-free brass construction meets current drinking-water material standards, making this coupling appropriate for potable water distribution in residential and light commercial plumbing applications. Licensed plumbers working with PEX-a tubing systems install this fitting during rough-in or retrofit work where pipe sizing changes are required.
This reducing coupling is used in PEX-a radiant heating, hydronic distribution, and domestic hot and cold water supply systems where a branch or supply line steps down from 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch nominal tubing. It is suited for concealed in-wall, in-floor, or in-ceiling installations. The domestic designation confirms the fitting is manufactured in the United States, which is relevant for projects with Buy American or domestic-content requirements under public or commercial contract specifications.
Designed as an OEM-style ProPEX fitting for use with PEX-a tubing systems requiring a 3/8-inch by 1/2-inch nominal reducing connection via the ProPEX expansion method.
Installation requires a calibrated ProPEX expansion tool and the correct-size PEX rings or expansion sleeves for each end of the fitting. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before cutting into any existing line. Work must comply with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC standards. Do not use this fitting with PEX-b or PEX-c tubing or with crimp- and clamp-style connection systems, as the ProPEX end geometry is not compatible.
