The TUNGALOY 6998285 is a CCMT-style turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Manufactured from cermet and finished with a PVD TiCNO coating, this insert delivers consistent performance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The diamond 80-degree insert shape and positive rake angle reduce cutting forces while the honed cutting edge improves surface finish and edge stability. With a 0.016 inch corner radius and a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, this insert suits light-to-medium material removal in finish turning and semi-finish turning operations. It is installed via screw-holding method and carries the PF chip breaker geometry for controlled chip flow.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (P10, P20), stainless steel (M20), and cast iron (K10) workpieces. It is commonly applied in production environments where tight tolerances and repeatable surface quality are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholder setups without requiring dedicated left- or right-hand configurations. Machinists and CNC programmers working in aerospace, automotive, and general machining will find this insert appropriate for finishing passes and controlled depth-of-cut applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard CCMT 21.51 screw-on turning toolholders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron at material grades P10, P20, M20, and K10. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards for CCMT 21.51 PF geometry.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the screw-clamp holding method standard to CCMT insert pockets. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Verify insert pocket cleanliness and seat contact before torquing the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.059 inches to avoid overloading the cutting edge.
