The TUNGALOY 6856671 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation TCMT32.52PS and the ISO designation TCMT16T308, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the AH725 grade. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees. The PS chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining operations. Three cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-clamp holding method keeps the insert secure during interrupted or continuous cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications across a broad range of workpiece materials. The AH725 grade with TiAlN PVD coating delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness when cutting steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, and maintains performance on superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Material grades P15, P30, M15, M30, K25, K30, S15, S25, and S25 fall within the recommended application envelope. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0984 inches, making this insert well suited to light finishing passes and medium-stock-removal operations where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities.
Designed for use in TCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for TCMT32.52 inserts. Suitable for CNC lathes and manual turning centers accepting triangular inserts with a 7-degree relief angle (clearance code C) and a hole diameter of 0.1730 inches.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in an E-stop or locked-out state before any insert change. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification - do not rely on hand-feel alone, as under- or over-torquing affects edge stability. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and verify the insert is fully flush in the pocket before resuming operation. Always wear cut-resistant gloves when handling carbide inserts.
