The TUNGALOY 6853995 is a DCGT-series solid carbide turning insert carrying the ISO designation DCGT11T302FNJS in manufacturer grade SH730. It features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a sharp cutting edge style, making it well suited for light finishing and semi-finishing passes. The insert is coated with TiAlN via a PVD coating process for heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding materials. With a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0079-inch corner radius, and a JS chip breaker, it delivers controlled chip formation at shallow depths of cut. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists will recognize this as a screw-held neutral-hand insert with two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. It is primarily aimed at machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. Specific material grades supported include P20, P35, M20, M35, S05, and S15. The JS chip breaker geometry makes it especially effective on gummy or work-hardening materials common in aerospace and precision manufacturing environments. It is suitable for CNC lathes and live-tooling setups where consistent chip control at light feeds is critical.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, tolerance code G, and clearance code C. Compatible with multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials per ISO codes P, M, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key driver to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
