The TUNGALOY 6853867 is a solid carbide milling insert in the WPMT series, designed for indexable face and shoulder milling operations. Manufactured to grade T3130 with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting steel and stainless steel. The trigon insert shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost. With a positive rake geometry, a honed cutting edge style, and an ML chip breaker, it is suited for medium-finish milling passes where controlled chip formation matters. A licensed HVAC or machining professional would recognize this as a precision consumable for CNC milling centers.
This insert is intended for use in steel and stainless steel milling applications, classified under ISO material grades P20 and M20. It fits the WPMT insert pocket style and is compatible with right-hand tooling setups. Typical install scenarios include face milling, shoulder milling, and light ramping operations on horizontal or vertical machining centers. The maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1180 inches), making it appropriate for moderate material removal rates in production or job-shop environments.
Compatible with cutter bodies in the EXP05/06/08/09, TXP05/06/08/09, and XWXPR/L series. Insert style is WPMT with size code 090725. Designed for right-hand tooling configurations using a screw-held insert pocket.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh edge. Discard inserts showing edge chipping, cratering, or flank wear beyond the cutter body manufacturer's recommended limits.
