The TUNGALOY 6818307 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation ASMT170508PDPR-MJ in grade AH120. The insert features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style for clean, stable engagement. A TiAlN coating applied via PVD process provides wear resistance and thermal stability during aggressive milling operations. With two cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 0.63 inches (16.00 mm), this insert is engineered for productive material removal. It is a single-sided, right-hand insert held by screw clamping and is sized to the 170508 insert size code.
This insert is suited for milling applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, superalloys, and titanium. It fits within material grade classifications P15, M15, K15, and S10, making it adaptable to both roughing and semi-finishing passes in industrial and job-shop environments. Compatible cutter series for this insert are the EPS17 and TPS17 platforms. The MJ chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across these material families. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production milling environments are the primary installers and users of this insert.
Designed for use in TUNGALOY EPS17 and TPS17 milling cutter series. Suitable for material grade applications P15, M15, K15, and S10 covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician using the screw-clamp holding method standard to the compatible cutter bodies. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before torquing the clamping screw; refer to the cutter body manufacturer documentation for the correct screw torque specification. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain runout and surface finish tolerances.
