The TUNGALOY 6818030 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the VNGA 332 geometry, manufactured under the BX380 grade designation. This multi-tipped, uncoated insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle, making it engineered specifically for hard material machining applications. The insert carries a honed cutting edge style and a flat-top chip breaker configuration. With 2 cutting edges per insert and a coarse grain PCBN substrate, it is suited for demanding interrupted and continuous turning operations on hardened workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on hard materials, classified under ISO workpiece material code H. The 2QP-VNGA series and VNGA 332 geometry conform to both ANSI and ISO standards, making this insert compatible with standard VNGA toolholders used in production and job-shop CNC turning environments. The BX380 PCBN grade is selected for applications where hardened ferrous materials or other difficult-to-machine hard materials require consistent tool life and dimensional accuracy at elevated cutting speeds.
Designed for use in standard VNGA-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO mounting specifications. Compatible with toolholder systems that accept the VNGA 332 insert size code with clamp and pin holding method.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or locked-out state. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket with the clamp and pin securing method before torquing the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for this insert geometry when programming roughing passes.
