The TUNGALOY 6817936 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the CNGA 433 geometry, designed for high-performance machining of hard and difficult materials. Part of the 2QP Mini-Tip series, it features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a negative rake angle, and a honed cutting edge for controlled, consistent cutting action. The insert measures 0.508 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0472-inch) corner radius. It carries the BX360 manufacturer grade and is supplied uncoated. This type of insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on hard workpiece materials, consistent with ISO material group H. It is a multi-tipped insert with two cutting edges, allowing the insert to be indexed before replacement. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and neutral insert hand make it adaptable across a range of hard-turning setups in both production and job-shop environments. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards under the CNGA 433 designation.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CNGA 433 geometry inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for clamp and pin style insert seating systems. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before clamping. PCBN inserts are brittle - avoid impact or dropping during handling.
