The TUNGALOY 6817916 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for high-performance machining of hard materials. Configured in the CNGA431 style with an 80-degree diamond shape, this insert features a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake angle, and a honed cutting edge for consistent performance on hardened steels and other difficult workpiece materials. The insert carries a BX310 manufacturer grade, is uncoated (bright finish), and belongs to the 2QP-CNM/GA series. It provides two cutting edges per insert and is held via clamp and pin mounting. Qualified machinists and CNC tooling specialists use this insert for turning, facing, and boring operations where tool life and dimensional accuracy are critical.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on hard materials in both production and job-shop environments. Its multi-tipped, flat-top chip breaker geometry and medium grain PCBN construction make it appropriate for interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened ferrous components. The 2QP-CNM/GA series targets applications where ceramic or carbide inserts reach their performance limits. Compatible with CNGA-style insert pockets and toolholders designed for 80-degree diamond inserts with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle.
Designed for use in CNGA-style insert pockets accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thickness, and clamp-and-pin holding. Compatible toolholder pockets must accommodate the CNGA431 insert size code. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications per the 2QP-CNM/GA series designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to ensure proper seating and accurate tool-nose position. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0197 inches as specified for this insert geometry.
