The TUNGALOY 6808848 is a TPGN322 LX11 ceramic turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in demanding finishing applications. Built from Alumina TiC ceramic with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers the hardness and thermal resistance required when machining hard materials. The triangular insert geometry provides three usable cutting edges, and a honed cutting edge style promotes clean, consistent surface finishes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.65-inch length, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it fits standard TPGN-style toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC technicians working on hard-material turning, facing, and boring operations will find this insert suited for tight-tolerance finishing passes.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations with primary application in hard materials, designated by ISO workpiece material code H. The flat-top chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0787 inches. Positive rake angle and positive side clearance geometry reduce cutting forces and help maintain dimensional accuracy in light, high-precision passes. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards under insert codes TPGN322 and TPGN160308 respectively.
Designed for use in TPGN-series clamp-style toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/8-inch thickness, and 11-degree relief angle. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of hard materials per ISO material group H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and pocket shim before tightening the clamp; uneven seating can cause premature edge failure or dimensional error. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before each insert change.
