The TUNGALOY 6806250 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the full designation SDMT1204AFPN-MJ in grade AH120. It is a square-shaped, single-sided insert with a 90-degree included angle, designed for face and shoulder milling operations in CNC machining centers. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cut conditions. With four usable cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, a 15-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style, it is suited for production-grade metal removal on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop or production environments are the primary users.
This insert is intended for use in milling cutters compatible with the SDMT 1204 insert pocket format. Confirmed cutter series compatibility includes EPO07, TPO07, and HPO07-M. Primary workpiece material codes are P, M, K, H, and S, corresponding to steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys including titanium. The MJ chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation across this range of materials. The neutral hand designation means the insert is not handed and seats in standard square-pocket tool holders without orientation restriction.
Compatible with TUNGALOY cutter series EPO07, TPO07, and HPO07-M. Insert size code 1204 with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ANSI and ISO designations SDMT1204AFPN-MJ AH120.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque on the mounting screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before mounting a fresh insert.
