The TUNGALOY 6803163 is a DNGA432 LX11 grade ceramic turning insert designed for high-efficiency machining of hard materials. Manufactured from an Alumina TiC ceramic substrate with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers thermal stability and edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds where carbide grades lose effectiveness. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.03 inches corner radius with a honed cutting edge. With four usable cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker geometry, it is engineered for finishing operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists working on hardened steel and similar hard-material applications are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on hard workpiece materials including hardened steels and hard alloys. The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry make it compatible with rigid, stable setups where vibration is minimized. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The maximum depth of cut is 0.079 inches, confirming its role as a finishing insert rather than a roughing tool. It conforms to ANSI insert code DNGA432 and ISO insert code DNGA150408, making it a direct-fit option for toolholders dimensioned to those standards.
Designed for use in DNGA-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards for DNGA432 (ISO 150408) inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness. Verify toolholder clamp and pin dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling specialists. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification - do not over-torque ceramic inserts, as they are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or contamination before each insert change.
