The TUNGALOY 6785711 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-TM series, designed for high-wear-resistance turning operations on steel and cast iron. It carries the ANSI designation SNMG433TM and ISO designation SNMG120412-TM, and is finished with a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The square insert geometry delivers a negative rake angle of -6 degrees and a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for roughing and medium machining passes. With 8 usable cutting edges and a sharp cutting edge style, this insert offers extended tool life per unit. A 0.047-inch corner radius and 0.5-inch inscribed circle round out the dimensional profile.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Its grade characteristics target steel workpieces requiring high wear resistance and stainless steel applications where a balance of wear resistance and toughness is needed. The TM chip breaker geometry is rated for both roughing and medium machining, giving machinists flexibility across a range of depths of cut up to 0.197 inches. It is compatible with standard SNMG-style toolholders using clamp or pin insert-holding methods.
Designed for use in standard SNMG-style toolholders accepting a square insert with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and clamp or pin clamping. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for SNMG120412 inserts. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel) and M (stainless steel), and also applicable to cast iron (K10, K20) and steel (P01, P10) material grades.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw or pin; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping force.
