The TUNGALOY 6781266 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. Manufactured to the CNMG433THS geometry in the T9225 grade, this carbide insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 80-degree diamond shape (CNMG) with a negative rake angle and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge delivers edge strength suited to moderate-to-heavy stock removal. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 0.047-inch corner radius, it handles a maximum depth of cut up to 0.331 inches. Installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this insert fits standard CNMG toolholders with clamp or pin-lock retention.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K. Material grades P15 and P25 indicate suitability for medium cutting conditions on low-to-medium alloy steels and cast irons. The THS chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow during continuous turning passes, making this insert a practical choice for production shops running high-volume part programs on lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO designation CNMG120412-THS T9225. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces at P15 and P25 material grade conditions.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians setting up CNC lathes or manual turning centers. The machine spindle and all axes must be powered down and locked out before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Clamp or pin-lock torque should follow the toolholder manufacturer's specifications, not those of the insert itself.
