The TUNGALOY 6749437 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for high-speed machining of hardened ferrous materials. It carries the BXA20 manufacturer grade, a multilayer PVD TiAlN coating, and a wiper edge geometry that improves surface finish at higher feed rates. The insert sits in the DNGA style with a 55-degree diamond shape, neutral hand, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. It is intended for use by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians who need consistent tool life and dimensional accuracy when cutting hardened steels and hard-to-machine alloys in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece material code H, covering hardened materials where high wear resistance is the critical requirement. The wiper edge configuration allows higher feed rates without sacrificing surface finish, making it suitable for finish and semi-finish turning passes on hardened steel components in aerospace, automotive, and die-mold applications. The multi-tipped, multi-use design supports turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards, with an ANSI size code of 432 and an ISO size code of 150408.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting DNGA style inserts with an ANSI size code of 432. The ISO equivalent designation is 2QP-DNGA150408WJ BXA20. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm pocket geometry and clamping method compatibility before installation.
Installation of indexable turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power isolated. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert-clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable ANSI B11 machine tool safety standards when changing inserts on live tooling or turning centers.
