The Trane A5AHV004A1D30A is a convertible, variable-speed air handler designed for residential split-system heat pump and air conditioning applications. It operates on 208/230 volts, single phase, 60 Hz and covers a cooling capacity range of 18,000 to 42,000 BTU/h, with a nominal rating of 3.5 tons. The unit uses a factory-installed R-454B thermal expansion valve and an all-aluminum plate-fin coil. A variable-speed direct-drive blower motor with 16 available speeds provides precise airflow control and quiet, efficient operation. Licensed HVAC technicians install and commission this unit as part of a matched split system.
This air handler is designed for use in residential split-system installations paired with a compatible outdoor condensing unit. It is positioned as part of the RunTru by Trane product line and is specifically matched with outdoor units such as the A5AC5042A1000 for a 3.5-ton, 15.2 SEER2-rated system. The unit supports 4-way (multi-position) installation, accommodating upflow, downflow, and horizontal configurations to suit a variety of residential equipment closet and attic installations. The 24-volt control system integrates with standard low-voltage thermostats and controls. Optional electric heater kits from 4 kW to 25 kW are available as accessories.
Confirmed matched system pairing includes the RunTru by Trane A5AC5042A1000 outdoor condensing unit for a 3.5-ton, 15.2 SEER2-rated split system. Compatible with optional single-phase electric heater kits rated at 4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, and 25 kW. The outdoor condensing unit is factory-charged for the outdoor unit, 10 feet of connecting line, and the smallest rated indoor evaporative coil match.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local mechanical codes and manufacturer installation, operation, and maintenance documentation. Disconnect all electrical power to the system before servicing or making any wiring connections. The multi-position cabinet requires correct orientation to be confirmed before mounting and duct connection to ensure proper condensate drainage. Refrigerant line connections must be made with proper recovery equipment and in compliance with EPA Section 608 regulations governing R-454B refrigerant handling.
